On September 7, 2023, the Abbeville County School Board voted unanimously to authorize Interim Superintendent, Dr. Lori Brewton, to enter into a sales contract to purchase up to five acres of property adjacent to Dixie High School for no more than $250,000, exclusive of closing and surveying costs. The motion was made by Mr. Dunn and passed 7-0.
Board Chair, Tim Rhodes, commented that “the potential to purchase additional acreage at the Dixie High campus is an exciting prospect for the District given the growth that we are experiencing at that site. As the public knows, we are working with our current construction projects, which will alter existing property concepts drastically, creating new but exciting challenges for our school leaders and administration. After much consideration and deliberation, the Board unanimously decided to embark upon the purchase of this property to maximize our full potential for our students, keeping in mind safety precautions and logistical challenges. If the deal is finalized with the land owners, the Board will consider all options for the acreage. Right now, current construction does not contemplate its use, so we are wide open. The Board will take into consideration the needs of the school and priorities that take precedent for the school’s administration in the coming years. To put it plainly, we have many options to explore, and we are excited to embark on those endeavors with our administration. I am pleased that the Board came together last night to put our children first and plan ahead for the future.”

Dear Parents and Guardians,
We want to inform you of an incident that occurred earlier today at Abbeville High School. While we understand that this may cause concern, we want to assure you that the safety and well-being of our students and staff remain our utmost priority.
Earlier today, a bomb threat was made against our school through a computer-generated message. In response, our dedicated team of district administrators, school administrators, local city police, and the county sheriff's department immediately collaborated to ensure the safety of everyone on our campus.
As a precautionary measure, the school was promptly placed on lockdown to secure the perimeter and assess the situation. At the recommendation of law enforcement, we also placed all schools on lockdown for a brief period of time. Once law enforcement completed an extensive exterior search and determined that the premises were safe, students were evacuated in an orderly and controlled manner.
Subsequently, an interior search was conducted by law enforcement professionals. We are pleased to share that this search yielded no evidence of any threats or hazards within the school building. Based on their thorough evaluation, it was deemed safe for students and staff to return to their classrooms, and normal operations have resumed at all schools.
We understand that situations like these can be unsettling, and we greatly appreciate your patience, cooperation, and understanding during this time. Our school's emergency response protocols, coupled with the swift and coordinated efforts of law enforcement, played a pivotal role in ensuring the safety of our students and staff.
Please know that we take all threats seriously, and every measure was taken to guarantee the security of our school environment. Should you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to us. Thank you for your ongoing support.

All lockdowns have ended. All students are safe. We will resume a normal schedule at this time.

Abbeville High School is currently locked down. Law enforcement is on the scene. All students are safe at this time. We will give you an update once we have more information.
