Due to power outages in the city of Abbeville, school has been canceled for today. Stay safe everyone!
We have monitored the weather since arriving this morning. We have been in constant contact with both Greenwood and Abbeville Emergency Management, law enforcement, neighboring districts, and principals. There was never a window of opportunity to put buses on the road where students and drivers were not at risk. The storms moved slower than forecasters anticipated, which spawned tornado warnings in different parts of the county at different times in the day. We decided to dismiss as soon as the line of severe weather, which entered our county before 11:00 this morning, and had passed through the entire county. We had our first tornado warning shortly after 11:00 AM and had five schools and the District Office under a tornado warning as late as 2:00 PM this afternoon. The safety of our students remains our top priority.
Due to the threat of severe weather, all after school and evening activities have been canceled for today. Stay safe, everyone!
Abbeville County School District will operate on a two hour delay Friday, February 7th. With the potential for continued rainfall into the night and potential flooding into the morning, we prefer buses to operate in the daylight making it easier to identify flooded areas. The safety of our students remains our top priority.
January is School Board Appreciation Month and we at ACSD are thankful for the contributions and hard work that our board members are involved in to benefit our students. Board members were presented with gifts and banners made by students at the most recent board meeting.
