Update: More information about the iTECH Academy will be released during the week of July 13 - 17.  We will provide information for parents, examples of potential daily schedules, expectations, etc. 

The following are some of the questions received since announcing plans to offer iTECH Academy for the 2020-2021 school year.  If you have a question not answered here, there's a link at the bottom of this page to submit it.  Thank you for your interest and participation.

 

Question #1:
Can I remove my child from the iTECH Academy and put them back in regular school?

Answer: Yes, at the end of the 1st semester.


Question #2:
What is the last day to complete the intent form for iTECH Academy?

Answer: July 16 is the deadline to complete the intent form.


Question #3:
What is the last day to officially register for iTECH Academy?

Answer: Online registration opens for returning students July 16. Parents interested in enrolling their child(ren) in iTECH Academy need to do so on or before July 31. Any student opting for iTECH Academy after July 31, will be placed on a waiting list on a first come, first served basis pending seat availability.


Question #4: 
Do I have to provide Internet service at home for my child to be enrolled in the iTECH Academy?

Answer: Yes.


Question # 5
Who is teaching in the iTech academy?

Answer: Abbeville County School District teachers will provide instruction.


Question # 6
Can students participate in district athletics and extracurricular activities if enrolled in iTECH Academy?

Answer: Yes, students remain enrolled in Abbeville County School District which makes them eligible for our athletics and extracurricular programs.


Question # 7
What will happen to the iTech classes if the face to face classes go online?

Answer: The iTECH Academy is separate from any other model the district offers. Once a student is enrolled in the iTECH Academy, they will remain enrolled for that semester.


Question # 8
Will the district provide a device for my child to use for iTECH Academy?

Answer: Yes.


Question # 9
Is everything submitted online or will you have to turn in work at the school?

Answer: Students enrolled in the iTECH academy will submit completed work online. 


Question # 10
Will these be live online classes with lectures and student participation using video and microphones during class?

Answer: Devices will be equipped with microphones and cameras that allow students to actively participate in online lessons. 


Question # 11
Will the teacher be from the school they are enrolled or from another school in the district?

Answer: Teachers from ACSD will provide instruction for students enrolled in the iTECH program. The teacher could be from your child’s school or another school in the district.


Question # 12
Will all Abbeville teachers be teaching iTECH or 1 per grade, etc?

Answer: The number of students enrolled in each grade level of the iTECH Academy will dictate the number of teachers needed.
